Can I do Yoga if I am pregnant?
Yes! Yoga is a great way for you to increase your energy and stamina. Try a prenatal yoga class or be sure to tell your yoga instructor that you are pregnant so that he/she can keep you safe and healthy. Also, yoga will help with concentration and endurance during labor and delivery.
Is it ok to practice yoga with a bad back?
It’s ok. Yoga will strengthen your back and stretch your spine. However, first check with your doctor to be sure that it is ok for you to practice-to be sure that it is not nerve pain or bulging disk pain. Rule of thumb-if it hurts, STOP!
I feel dizzy or nauseous after practicing yoga.
Try a protein shake or power bar about 1 ½ hours before class. Drink a lot of water. Talk to your instructor if this continues.
I’m not sure if I can do yoga because I can’t touch my toes. I’m just not flexible enough.
One of the benefits of yoga is flexibility however; it has nothing to do with being able to touch your toes. Yoga is designed to keep your mind and body healthy.
What should I bring to class?
Bring your Yoga Mat if you have one. We have some for you to rent if it is your first time. You may also want to bring a hand towel and water.
Can I eat before class?
It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Allow 2 hours to digest after a snack and 3-4 hours after a meal before practicing.
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable and light weight. Bare feet are recommended.
Is Yoga a Religion?
Some people are concerned about yoga being a religion. They fear that by taking up the practice of Yoga, they might undermine their own religious faith. Are their fears warranted? Is Yoga a religion? The quick answer to both questions is: Instead of undermining one’s personal faith, Yoga can actually deepen it. Yoga is not a religion! It is a way of living with health and peace of mind.
Why do yogis chant?
Chanting can help the practitioner feel peaceful, calm and centered. Chanting can be used to focus, clear the mind or bring the class together. When a person chants it can stabilize their heart rate, lower blood pressure, produce beneficial endorphins in the body and boost metabolic processes. Chanting causes the mind and body to relax which helps us ysically, mentally and emotionally in countless ways.
